Digital waste tracking for skip yards
Since 1 October 2026, permitted receiving sites in England and Wales have had to report every load they take in, digitally, within two working days, starting the day after it lands. For a skip yard that's every skip back, every tipper, every walk-in. And that's on top of getting the skips out and back in the first place.

Does a skip hire company have to report the waste it takes in?
If your yard is a permitted site that receives waste, yes, every load. If you only carry skips to other people's sites, the carrier side is planned for October 2027.
Do I have to buy software?
No. DEFRA has a free spreadsheet and it works. Software's for when the time it takes is better spent on the yard.
Does it work with no signal?
Not yet. You'll need a data connection where loads get logged. We'll check that with you before you go live.
