    What's coming

    What's coming for carriers

Phase 1 is receiving sites. Permitted sites in England and Wales have been reporting every load they take in since 1 October 2026. Carriers, brokers and dealers are phase 2. DEFRA's published plan is an invited group of collectors from autumn 2026, open to all from spring 2027, and mandatory from October 2027. DEFRA hasn't published exactly what carriers will have to report yet.

    Now

What you have to do now

As a carrier, you don't report into digital waste tracking yet. Your duty of care hasn't changed. Every transfer still needs a transfer note, and paper notes aren't banned. If you also run a permitted site that takes waste in, that site has been in scope since 1 October 2026.

    What we do

What Wastrio does for carriers now

    1. The job goes to the driver's phone. Drops, swaps and collections.

    2. The customer signs the transfer note on the screen, or later from a link if they weren't there.

    3. The note's stored and searchable, so you're not hunting for carbon copies.

    Get ready

Why get set up before 2027

    • Your drivers are used to it before it's compulsory.

    • Your notes are already digital when the carrier side opens.

    • We'll tell you what changes as DEFRA publishes the detail for carriers.

DEFRA plans to make it mandatory for carriers, brokers and dealers from October 2027, with the service open to all collectors from spring 2027.

Do carriers need to report anything now?

Not into digital waste tracking. Your duty of care still applies, so every transfer still needs a transfer note.

Yes. Jobs go to the driver's phone and the customer signs on screen or from a link.
